Dear Lovemaking Answers -

I broke up with my boyfriend 3 months ago and I have been horny. I have masturbated only to get an odor 2 days later its coming out of my pours. What is causing this? I massage my clitoris until I get a warm tingling feeling that urges me to go on. Also I would like to buy me a vibrator but I'm not sure what to get and when using these vibrators should there be a lubricant to go with it if so what is a good one that won't be to harsh on a sensitive body. Please put anonymous when you advertise this. What is the correct way to masturbate?

Dear Anonymous -

Let's start with the odor first. Some women report that they have this issue, others say that nothing changes for them. Here are some tips you can try, although you mention that the odor comes from your pores, not the vaginal area.

Visit your doctor, either family doctor or gynecologist if you have not already and have her check you out. You might have some infection that does not show up vaginally. Also, although you are not currently sexually active, get yourself tested for any STDs. You don't mention how old you are, but now is a good time to have a pap smear as well - they should be done annually and are a great way to keep yourself healthy.

Avoid taking long, hot bubble baths. Soaking in hot water can increase your chance of getting yeast infections. Washing twice a day, plus rinsing or using feminine wipes after using the restroom can also help with this.

Possibly a change of diet might be in the cards. More fruits and vegetables can help balance the ph and reduce the acidity and therefore any smells.

If you work out or after you masturbate, always wash up. Sweat and fluids can get into the many folds and create a pungent smell.

As for toys, many adult toys will tell you what lubricants are safe to use, but most major name brand lubricants that you can pick up at any grocery or pharmacy store will be fine for the toys. Just make sure you wash all the toys thoroughly when you are done with them. Most toys can be washed using a mild soap and water, and then towel dry them before replacing them. This is one time when cleanliness is next to Godliness!

And now onto masturbation - there is no right way or wrong way to do this! If you were to put 20 women into a room and got them talking about how they masturbate (assuming they would be honest enough to share) you'd get about 60 differing opinions! We are unique beings and even from day to day how we masturbate and what we find good changes. A safe bet though is to find and massage/rub your clitoris (the clitoris is the small button like protrusion above the vaginal area) as that is often our most erogenous zone. The vaginal walls and the cervix, if it can be reached with your hand, are other areas that can be aroused fairly easily. But what makes you aroused one day may not do anything for you the next. The best thing you can do is find what works for you. The main advantage to that is that when you meet the perfect someone and become sexually active again, you can tell/show him what you like with some certainty.

Showering after you masturbate should take care of any bodily fluids that may be produced as a result of your orgasm. There should not be a smell 2 days later from your pores due to your masturbation. Your pores will release sweat, the smell of smoke, garlic, alcohol and the likes.

Vibrators can be purchased at adult shops or discreetly online. As for the lubrication for sensitive skin - look for one that is hypoallergenic - there are some that mimic a woman's natural wetness and are available in drug stores.

There isn't necessarily a "correct way" for everyone to masturbate. Your body may not respond as quickly or in the same fashion as the next person. You can explore your clitoris with the vibrator while your mind wanders to what turns you on most about sex - or - some women use the flow
of the water from the bathtub to run across their clit, which mimics a flickering tongue instead of a vibrator.
